Gender Affirmation Project

The Gender Affirmation Project provides logistical and financial support to trans and nonbinary people looking to legally affirm their gender via a legal name and/or gender marker change. We know that there are many barriers to legal gender affirmation, including the overall cost and confusing paperwork. This program will help to decrease these barriers.

Why is access to legal gender affirmation important?

Want to help reduce barriers for trans folks trying to get IDs that match their name and gender? You can donate here.

Can't contribute personally? Consider sharing the fundraiser on social media. You can share our Facebook or Instagram posts to help us achieve our goal.

Sign Up to Receive Support

If you live in Ingham County and would like assistance with your legal gender affirmation, you can fill out this form and we'll be in touch with you about participating in the program!

What does this look like?

After you complete the form, someone will reach out to you in about a week to set up a meeting in person (at the Salus Center). At that meeting, we will help you through all of the paperwork and provide support for some of the important decisions associated with this process. After that, we'll submit your documents and then you'll be contacted by the court for a hearing about your name change. From start to finish, this process takes about 8 weeks. We can cover all of your fees for this process as well.
