Gender Affirmation Project

The Gender Affirmation Project provides logistical and financial support to trans and nonbinary people looking to legally affirm their gender via a legal name and/or gender marker change. We know that there are many barriers to legal gender affirmation, including the overall cost and confusing paperwork. This program will help to decrease these barriers.

Sign Up to Receive Support

If you would like assistance with your legal gender affirmation, like changing your legal name or gender marker, you can fill out this form and we'll be in touch with you about participating in the program! Please note that in order to receive assistance through this program, all meetings must take place in person at the Salus Center in Lansing.

If you have any questions about the program, you can contact us at genderaffirmation@gmail.com

At this time, we offer logistical and financial help for the following:

  • Legal name changes related to gender for youth and adults in Ingham County.

  • Michigan birth certificate updates of name and gender markers. This is NOT limited to Ingham County residents. We can sometimes cover the fees for out of state birth certificates, but this varies depending on the state requirements.

  • Gender marker and name updates on state ID/license when attending the Secretary of State mobile clinics at Salus Center.

Although we cannot cover the costs for the following, we now offer logistical help with:

  • Legal name changes related to gender for youth and adults in Michigan counties outside of Ingham County.
